Benfica hosted the ninth edition of the Eusébio Cup on Wednesday 27th July. 45,818 fans were in attendance at the Estádio da Luz for the game against Torino. Neil Fernandes summarises the action, and explains why Benfica's defeat could actually be a good omen!

Squad List: Lyon x Benfica

Benfica have taken 23 players to France for their final preseason friendly, against Lyon on Sunday night. New signing Danilo goes straight into the squad.

Ederson continues to recover from his knee surgery, while Jonas has been struck down with flu. Jardel (right thigh), Fejsa (left knee), Salvio (left ankle) and Živković (right leg) are all unavailable. Talisca and Carcela are both absent, and look set to leave the club in the coming days.

The game begins at 20:45 local time (19:45 UK/Portuguese time) at the Parc Olympic Lyonnais.

Benfica have taken 28 players to England for their preseason training camp at St. George's Park, home of the English national team. Victor Lindelöf, Jonas and Raúl Jiménez all return having been given extra time to recover from Euro 2016 and the Copa América.

Guillermo Celis, Andrija Živković and Reinildo are still awaiting visas to travel to the UK, but Benfica remain hopeful that they will be granted before the end of the week.

Marçal remains in Lisbon with a muscle strain, while Ederson continues to recover from knee surgery. Youth goalkeeper Miguel Santos drops out of the squad. Júlio César is unlikely to play but should be fit for the start of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday versus Benfica kicks off at 19:30 at Hillsborough on Wednesday night.

Rui Vitória has taken 29 players to southern Portugal for the Algarve Cup. The least familiar names in the squad are Portuguese goalkeeper Miguel Santos (21), Russian goalkeeper Ivan Zlobin (19), and Mozambican defender Reinildo (22).

Benfica reveal 32-man squad for preseason programme

According to Benfica's official website, 23 players attended the first day of preseason training today at the Caixa Futebol Campus in Seixal. A further 9 players will report for duty in the coming days.

Rui Vitória comences pre-season work

Benfica's new manager Rui Vitória returned from his holiday yesterday and was seen at the Caixa Futebol Campus.

The ex-Vitória de Guimarães manager conversed with the first team staff to begin and plan the pre-season, which officially begins on 2nd July.

Benfica have already booked their place in the International Champions Cup of North America and will play a number of fixtures on the other side of the Atlantic, starting in the USA.

England to host Benfica's pre-season

Benfica will make a trip to England in July as part of a pre-season package. The newly crowned Portuguese champions have received an invitation to train at the National Football Centre for 10 days, and will be facing Burton Albion and Derby County in friendlies.

Taça de Honra friendly tournament dates confirmed

Lisbon Football Association (AFL) have announced the dates for the 2015/16 pre-season Lisbon tournament friendly, which will take place in Belenenses' Estádio do Restelo.

The 67th edition of Taça de Honra de Lisboa is confirmed from Thursday 16th July to Saturday 18th July where Lisbon based clubs Benfica, Sporting, Belenenses and Estoril will participate, being the four best placed teams in the domestic league.
