Lisbon derby magic moments!

As we warm up for tomorrow's crunch match away against our eternal reptilian foes, we've been reliving some epic derbies of the past. Let us know your best moments in the comments!

Pablo Aimar 2010

As Benfica thundered on in their title winning 2009/10 season, the home fixture to eternal rivals Sporting stuck out as a potential hazard. Sporting hadn't had a season to write home about, but then they rarely do. Nonetheless, a derby is always a derby. And no one would have loved to have taken it away from us more than Sporting. After a tense and goalless first half, finally Óscar "Tacuara" Cardozo diverted a driving cross from Fábio Coentrão into the Sporting goal on 68 minutes, to everyone's joy and relief. But the match was topped off by this sensational goal from Pablito himself.

Derby antics commence

This matchweek is the much anticipated Lisbon derby with Benfica travelling a couple of kilometres to Alvalade where they will play Sporting CP.

It would not be a derby without a heated build up between two and Sporting fans began by embarrassing themselves when they disfigured wall murals that celebrated Benfica's glorious history.

Preparations for Guimarães underway

Jorge Jesus has called his players to the Caixa Futebol Campus training ground tomorrow at 17:00 GMT to begin preparations for the upcoming Liga game.

The champions will face Guimarães on Saturday 10th January at 17:00 GMT where the match will also be used to honour Eusébio, who had the stadium's street address named after this morning to remember his legacy.

The change was approved and supported by the Lisbon municipality, who also marked their presence in today's proceedings.

Benfica prepare to host Belenenses

The Lisbon derby between Benfica and Belenenses will kick-off this Saturday at 17:00 GMT.

Jorge Jesus' side will be training tomorrow from 10:00 at the Caixa Futebol Campus behind closed doors to prepare for the 12th matchweek of the Primeira Liga.

Belenenses have had a very positive start to this season and currently sit in 5th place with 21 points from 11 games.

European loss no excuse for Jesus

Benfica face Académica in the Portuguese Liga tomorrow and Jorge Jesus aims to defend the top spot which has currently been handed to Vitoria de Guimaraes.

The manager refused to let the disqualification from Europe affect their preparation.

"Independent of Wednesday's game our responsibility is to win and work in a way that the team goes to Coimbra prepared to play well, like we have been doing so far in the league, which is why we are at the top. Our objective is to win and defend the first spot."

Belenenses match moved to Saturday 6th December

Benfica's home game against Belenenses, which was initially confirmed for Friday 5th December at 19:45 GMT, has now moved to Saturday 6th December at 17:00 GMT.

Benfica's disqualification from European football after the narrow loss in Russia against Zenit was the motivating factor.

It is likely the final Group C match against Leverkusen on 9th December will now feature non-first-team players.

Tickets can still be purchased for both games at the Estádio da Luz, Casas do Benfica or online at slbenfica.pt.
