Emphatic Benfica crush Estoril

Benfica demolished José Couceiro's Estoril in Estádio da Luz with six goals without reply to increase the gap between second placed side FC Porto to 7 points as title rivals host Sporting tomorrow.

Four goals in the first half was the biggest goal margin in the first 45 minutes by Benfica this season, and there could have been more, watch the highlights above.

SL Benfica x Estoril Squad List

Jorge Jesus confirmed the list of 18 players he has called up to face Estorial this afternoon.

The biggest change since the previous game is the inclusion of Gaitán, which has pushed out Gonçalo Guedes back to his Benfica B role.

One of the below players will not feature on the starting XI or the bench per the norm.

Goalkeepers: Artur and Paulo Lopes

Defenders: Jardel, Lisandro, Maxi Pereira, Luisão, André Almeida and Eliseu

Midfielders: Pizzi, Salvio, Ola John, Talisca, Gaitán, Cristante and Samaris

Jesus demands merit where due

Jorge Jesus gave his views ahead of tomorrow's league encounter at the Luz against Estoril.

"We are into the last third of this championship and we would like to continue with this advantage."

"It's important to remain focused on what is ahead. We will aim to play with pace, be agressive, and create many chances, which would make this game a lot easier."

"Estoril is well organised at the back and they will try to break us in the counter attack or in set pieces."

"But in football two plus plus doesn't always equal four."

Jorge Jesus escapes suspension

Benfica's previous league game had its fair share of refereeing madness, whether correct or incorrect, it won't cause unrest at the Benfica camp as they brushed aside Moreirense.

Both Jorge Jesus and his counterpart Miguel Leal were sent off to the stands for leaving their technical areas and entering the pitch. They were fined 39 euros and will not need to serve a suspension as the league saw sense that both were trying to calm the situation down when a red card was brandished.

Highlights: Moreirense 1 - 3 Benfica

Moreirense FC x SL Benfica Squad List

Gaitán misses out again as Jorge Jesus names his 18 match squad to travel to Moreira de Cónegas and face Moreirense for the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

The Argentine will not be risked and instead Gonçalo Guedes continues to receive the manager's support.

With Samaris suspended André Almeida or Cristante may be called to replace the Greek in the starting XI.

"With Samaris out the best placed players are Cristante and André Almeida." stated Jesus.

"Pizzi has been improving in both offensive and defensive plays. He is integrated with the team's ideas and strategies."

All eyes on Moreirense away

Jorge Jesus called the squad for another training session this morning at 10:00 at the Seixal Futebol Campus.

The reds are fully focused in keeping their gap with the rivals who play on Sunday and Monday.

Nico Gaitán is still not confirmed to feature as the Argentine continues to recover from an injury he suffered in Funchal on 18th January. The creative midfielder has since missed 6 games. The good news is that he has been training with the first team however may not be risked.

The aftermath of the Lisbon derby by 'Redpass'

Jardel's 94th minute goal against Sporting on Sunday 9th February at the Estádio José Alvalade still echoes in their nightmares.

The shortlived 86th minute celebration, the 'olés', and their histerical/offensive banners have all but come back to haunt them in a way they fully deserve.

The exert below 'Learn to say Benfica' is translated in English from the well acclaimed Benfica blog Redpass, by JG on 12th February 2015.

"So, this will not stop anytime soon will it?

The derby has already come and gone, Benfica has returned to its reality which is to continue winning. The theme remains the same and Sporting have already cut ties with Benfica.

Comfortable win over Vitória de Setúbal with a Lima brace

Benfica repeated the mid-week result against Vitória de Setúbal, this time for the Liga, with a comfortable 3-0 win over Os Sadinos.

Jardel continued where he left off in the Liga and scored the opener with a well headed effort from Pizzi's corner. Lima added the second minutes before the half with a high placed ball from close range, the ball was a cross from Ola John and the dutchman received the benefit of doubt after a shoulder-to-shoulder barge with Pedro Queirós.
