Rui Vitória

On Sunday, over 56,000 fans gathered in the stands of the Catedral on a sunny but crisp winter afternoon to see Benfica defeat underdogs Tondela, with goals from Pizzi (2), Rafa Silva and Jonas. Despite the convincing 4-0 scoreline, the Reds faced some difficulties, especially in the first half, when the visitors managed to keep them at bay with a neat and efficient defensive display.

Vitória: "We displayed a reaction worthy of champions"

Rui Vitória

It was an afternoon to remember: a packed Estádio da Luz welcomed the 15 millionth supporter through its gates since its official opening in 2003, and the atmosphere was absolutely thrilling. After a series of convincing displays, and with the lethal fans' favourite Jonas getting back into the groove, Boavista seemed like easy prey for the Eagles.

Highlights: Benfica 3 - 3 Boavista

Vitória not expecting Boavista to "park the bus"

Boavista

Benfica meet Boavista at the Estádio da Luz on Saturday afternoon. The 2000/01 Primeira Liga champions are not quite the force they once were, but Rui Vitória is still wary of a side that have taken seven points from their last three league games, conceding just once in the process.

Squad List: Benfica x Boavista

Benfica are without five players ahead of Boavista's visit to the Estádio da Luz on Saturday afternoon. Álex Grimaldo is set to undergo surgery on his abdominal injury and should be sidelined for the next few months.

Rui Vitória is also unable to call upon Eliseu (thigh), Guillermo Celis (knee), Ljubomir Fejsa (thigh) and Raúl Jiménez (groin). Yuri Ribeiro has returned to the Benfica B squad.

Saturday's match gets underway at 16:00 in Lisbon.

Goalkeepers: Ederson and Júlio César

Defenders: Lisandro, Luisão, Lindelöf, Jardel, André Almeida and Nélson Semedo

Vitória and Pizzi laud deadly strike duo

Benfica continued their excellent form in the Primeira Liga with a professional 2-0 win over Vitória de Guimarães at the Estadio D. Afonso Henriques on Saturday evening. Both teams had their chances in what was an even and entertaining encounter, but the Eagles were more ruthless in front of goal, as Rui Vitória acknowledged in his post-match press conference.
