Highlights: Benfica 3 - 1 Braga

Vitória refuses to blame medical staff for injury crisis

Benfica and Braga lock horns in Lisbon tonight, knowing that three points will enable the winner to leapfrog Sporting at the top of the Liga NOS. The Eagles won the corresponding fixture 5-1 last season, but Rui Vitória is expecting a much tougher encounter this time around.

Squad List: Benfica x Braga

Benfica host Braga on Monday night, with the winner guaranteed to take top spot in the Liga NOS.

Kostas Mitroglou returns after his thigh strain, but his compatriot Andreas Samaris is out with a sprained ankle. Rafa (right thigh), Raúl (left knee), Jonas (right foot), Jardel (left thigh) and Danilo (right leg) remain on the sidelines.

Andrija Živković and Luka Jović have both received call-ups, but it remains to be seen whether either will make the 18-man matchday squad.

Monday's game begins at 20:00 at the Estádio da Luz.

Benfica were wasteful, admit Vitória and Guedes

Benfica secured a 2-1 victory over Arouca on Friday night, taking them to the top of the Liga NOS, at least until Saturday night. Nélson Semedo and Lisandro López were the goalscorers, but the visitors should have had several more, as Rui Vitória admitted after the game.

Vitória backs Gomes and Rafa for Arouca trip

Benfica face Arouca in the Liga NOS on Friday night. The Eagles lost the corresponding fixture last season, and will be keen to avoid a repeat result. The team's preparations have been hindered by the international break, as Rui Vitória acknowledged in his pre-match interview.

Squad List: Arouca x Benfica

Benfica are facing something of an injury crisis, with Jonas (right foot hematoma), Raúl Jiménez (left knee sprain), Kostas Mitroglou (left thigh strain) and Luka Jović (bruised toe) all unavailable for Friday’s trip to Arouca. Rui Vitória has responded by handing a first call-up to 17-year old forward José Gomes.

The Encarnados also have limited options in central midfield; Guillermo Celis has not been selected, and Danilo has a right leg injury.

On a positive note, André Almeida, Luisão and Jardel are all fit to return to first-team action, and new signing Rafa Silva goes straight into the squad.

Arouca versus Benfica kicks off at 20:30 on Friday at the Estádio Municipal de Arouca.

Goalkeepers: Ederson and Júlio César

Defenders: Lisandro, Grimaldo, Luisão, Lindelöf, Eliseu, Jardel, André Almeida and Nélson Semedo

Midfielders: Fejsa, Samaris, André Horta, Carrillo, Salvio, Pizzi and Cervi

Forwards: Rafa, Gonçalo Guedes and José Gomes

Vitória pleased with clinical Carrillo

Benfica overcame Nacional on Saturday night in an entertaining game full of opportunities. The home side gifted Benfica the lead with an early own goal, before Sporting loanee Tobias Figueiredo equalised with a thumping header. The Eagles' advantage was restored by substitute André Carrillo, who scored just two minutes into his competitive debut, and Raúl wrapped things up in the dying minutes with an opportunistic finish.

Squad List: Nacional da Madeira x Benfica

Jonas has made a shock return to the Benfica squad only two weeks after undergoing ankle surgery. His recovery leaves just four players in the treatment room: André Almeida (broken nose), Luisão (right leg), Jardel (right thigh) and Andrija Zivković (right leg).

Teenage centre-back Branimir Kalaica has received his first call-up for a competitive match, but Danilo and Óscar Benítez have been dropped.

Nacional versus Benfica begins at 20:30 on Saturday at the Estádio da Madeira.

Goalkeepers: Ederson, Júlio César and Paulo Lopes

Defenders: Lisandro, Grimaldo, Lindelöf, Kalaica, Eliseu and Nélson Semedo

Midfielders: Fejsa, Samaris, André Horta, Carrillo, Salvio, Pizzi, Cervi and Celis

Forwards: Raúl Jiménez, Jonas, Mitroglou and Gonçalo Guedes

Vitória welcomes Jonas back into the fold

Benfica have received a massive boost with the news that Jonas is in the squad for Saturday's Liga NOS clash with Nacional da Madeira. After undergoing ankle surgery on August 11th, it was reported that the Brazilian would miss four or five games, but he has defied expectations by returning after two. Rui Vitória broke the news in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
