Benfica youth team played against Astana in the UEFA Youth League, beating them with a hefty score of 8-0, making it the largest scoreline in the history of the competition. The team line up and the substitutions were as follows:
André Ferreira, Francisco Ferreira, João Lima, Yuri Ribeiro, Pedro Rodrigues, Gonçalo Rodrigues, João Carvalho (Bruno Lourenço, 67m), Diogo Gonçalves (Tiago Dias, 72m), Buta, Hildeberto Pereira, José Gomes (João Filipe, 56m).
The first goal came after just 10 minutes, from,Diogo Gonçalves who had scored two goals in last years competition. At the 21st minute, José Gomes would score the second of the evening. Diogo Gonçalves would get the third of the evening at the 26th minute while José Gomes would score his brace at the 34th minute mark. The scoreline would see the fifth added at the 36th minute, coming from Gonçalo Rodrigues while Hildeberto Pereira would add the sixth goal just before halftime, at the 42nd minute. Benfica would have twenty attempts on target, with ten on goal, leaving Astana barely able to make any impact on the game, shown by their zero shots on goal.
The second half would see Diogo Gonçalves getting his hattrick, scoring the seventh goal of the night at the 55th minute, while Hildeberto would also get his brace, scoring the eight and final score at the 78th minute mark.
Benfica now have three points, tied on points with Atlético Madrid who won against Galatasaray 3-1, but the obvious score difference sees Benfica ahead on goal differential. Benfica will play Atletico at Madrid on September 30th, while Galatasaray travel away to Astana.
