A comittee from Sport Lisboa e Benfica traveled to Guinea-Bissau to sign a new protocol and open a Benfica school in the country.
Rui Gomes da Silva was joined by ex-stars Nuno Gomes and Mantorras in this trip that caused much excitement in the western African country.
Hélder and his Benfica B side also traveled to play a game against Sport Bissau e Benfica, which they won 4-3 last Thursday, goals coming from Francisco Vera (2), Hildeberto, and Sarkic.
The school will be able to allow at least 400 youngsters to use good facilities and get closer to the footballing world.
Benfica's vice-president Rui Gomes da Silva stated the following:
"We are going to repeat the same model that we have in Spain, Cape Green, and China, over here."
Nuno Gomes, Benfica's newly appointed General Director for youth football was happy with the enthusiasm shown.
"We came to begin a new relationship and partnership with Guinea Bissau and hope it comes to fruition in the near future."
"Many Benfica fans came out to celebrate with us and the openning of this new school."
"The main objective is that the youngsters feel happy with this new initiative. We will return to Lisbon with a sense of accomplishment."
The committee also visited the pediatric hospital in the capital, the Nacional Simão Mendes.
