Benfica have wasted no time in making their first summer signing with the arrival of Swiss international striker Haris Seferović. The 25-year old joins on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract with Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. He has penned a five-year contract.
The Eagles' latest recruit has had something of a nomadic career to date, playing for Grasshopper Zurich and Neuchâtel Xamax in his native Switzerland; Fiorentina, Lecce and Novara in Italy; Real Sociedad in Spain; and Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. Seferović was given his international debut by Ottmar Hitzfeld in February 2013, and represented his country at the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016. He remains a key part of the Switzerland squad, although he has only found the net once in his last 13 international appearances.
Intriguingly, the forward shares an agent with Ljubomir Fejsa, Luka Jović, Filip Đuričić and Lazar Marković. To learn more about his characteristics as a player, click here.
Seferović endured a difficult final year in Frankfurt, netting just four times in 29 appearances, although he did win a runners-up medal in the German cup final, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Borussia Dortmund. In total, the striker scored 19 goals in 96 appearances across three seasons at Eintracht.
In his first interview with BTV, Seferović was asked to describe himself as player, and to share his initial impressions of the club and the capital city.
"I like to score goals. I'm a forward, but if I can make assists, I make them. What I want most is to win the game and the three points."
"I know a lot [about Benfica]. I know that it's a very big club, with the largest number of fans in the world, and I think that it's a good club for me. I'm proud to be at Benfica."
"Lisbon is a very pleasant city, it has a very good climate, it seems like a very good city for the players and it is good to be here."
"I want to win titles with this jersey! Thank you all!"
