Jardel was part of the "Secrets of the 34th" program that has been running frequently on Benfica's channel BTV.

The Brazilian spoke of his emotions in winning the title and summarised the low and high ends of his season.

"When the Garay rumours started I began preparing myself and was focused on giving my best so things would turn out well. Unfortunately it didn't happen immediately. I had a poor start to the first few games and an injury which didn't help."

"I did OK in the supercup but then we entered the phase of the league and European competitions and I recognise I could have done much better. My team mates always supported me and thankfully I was able to turn it around."

"I had always dreamed in played in a big club. But my career up to here was always filled with uncertainties, even with the injuries I had in Brazil."

At the Luz Jardel found Luisão, a leader, but above all a friend who helped him during the toughest of times.

"It's very gratifying receiving words of support from him. He also posted on his Facebook and Instagram page wishing me happy birthday - always giving me a boost, can't seem to explain it, it's like a dream."

"Winning the «bicampeaonato» as a first team starter was emotional. I also won the league the season before but this time it was a different feeling altogether."

The defender admitted this was his best season yet, and the goal he scored against Sporting in injury time to tie the match was the most important of his career. Benfica gained a title winning momentum after the last second equalizer in the Lisbon derby.
